What’s your origin story? How did you get started with this work?
Almost my entire life I was always drawing. I am a self taught artist. I have lived in the United States for 10 years in New Hampshire & three years in California. I happened to be watching a half hour community show in New Hampshire. They had featured an artist who painted on feathers. It took my breath away. I thought it was absolutely gorgeous. I was so intrigued to master this unique art.
It was a lot of researching, and mistakes along the way. I learned by my mistakes, and also taught myself many techniques.
I have been doing this for almost 20 years.
What pushes and/or inspires you to be creative?
I was born & raised on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. I was always in love with nature and marine life. My Dad had taken me on many fishing trips. There were times when Killer Whales would swim right under the boat. I was so fortunate to be out on the waters. We used to go to a place called Race Rocks. It is now a protected nature sanctuary for walrus & seals. I remember being in that area & seeing countless Seals.
Vancouver Island is a beautiful place with Rain forests, Ocean, Rivers, Lakes, Mountains. It was a place that inspired my artistic talent from drawing to painting wildlife.
How lucky am I now? I live in Hinton, 10 min to the Jasper Gates, Alberta. The first time I went through Jasper I was just in complete awe. It gave me the shivers. Absolutely the most majestic place I have seen. It was the first time I was able to see Grizzly bears, Wolves, Rams, Glacier waters. The changing of the different types of mountains. The Palisade Mountains are my favorite. Being able to take a back road and drive directly beside, looking straight up the sheer cliff face.
I am surrounded by nature and the places I lived & live are so inspiring. My wildlife paintings allow me to share all over the world.
