Jamie robson photography
What do you make
I take photos. I haven't quite found my niche yet so I've been exploring multiple types of photography. I enjoy shooting products and branding for small businesses. Typically I take portraits and document stories of intimate elopements, engagements, and families, I also love boudoir sessions. My weakness in photography is landscapes, so I've stayed away from that.
Is this a part time or full time pursuit
Part time
Where’s home, and what do you like about it
Jasper, AB has been my home for the past 7 years. I am originally from Windsor, Ontario which will always have a little piece of my heart. I've always been a globe trotter and spent quite a few years not really knowing where to call 'home'. After exploring a few continents, I was drawn to the beauty of the Rocky Mountains, the opportunity for adventure has kept me here ever since.
I love the small town mentality and the culture it creates within the community. There is a comfort in walking down the streets or into a local pub and smiling at the many familiar faces. I also love the variety of activities this park has to offer within steps of my front door.
What’s your origin story? How did you get started with this work?
My creative spark for photography was ignited when I dove into a 3-6-5 project in 2017, taking one photo a day, for 365 days, using ONLY the manual mode on my camera. I’ve always had an interest in photography, but all of those buttons and numbers and new verbiage scared me away, so I never pursued it. Committing to one photo every day for one year opened my eyes to the details of the tiniest objects, and the true value of a moment captured in time. For me, watching those moments fleeting by through the lens is an opportunity to see things one bit at a time.
What pushes and/or inspires you to be creative?
I consider myself pretty fortunate to live in a place that most people 'vacation' to. Most of my clients are from out of town and I love being able to capture this point of time in their lives while surrounding them with the beautiful landscapes. When they receive their galleries and express their gratitude and appreciation in how the images truly reflect who they are, it pushes me to continue telling other's stories through images.
I am also fortunate to be a part of a small community of inspiring photographers in Jasper. I'm the "new kid on the block" in terms of my business but they've taken me under their wing and have pushed me to continue creating and valuing my work.
