Knotty Collective

Kate Ball

If I don't have at least one project on the go at any given time I feel incomplete.

What do you make

My work includes macrame, knitwear, and jewelry. I don't know that I prefer one over the other, I like working in a few different fields of craft as it keeps my creative process fresh and innovative.

Is this a part time or full time pursuit

Part time

Where’s home, and what do you like about it

I have been living in Jasper, Alberta, for the past year and a half. There is so much to love about living here! The mountains, the scenery, and the nature we are surrounded by provide me with plenty of gratitude and inspiration for my work.

For me, the most special thing about living in Jasper is the community. The kindness, the creativity, and the all-inclusive welcoming vibe that this little bubble has to offer may have me hooked!

What’s your origin story? How did you get started with this work?

I have been doing crafts since I was a little girl. I started out painting wooden cutouts, colouring, and making friendship bracelets. My Mom and my Aunt are both very creative so I suppose it's in my blood! I have always been interested in creating and making things.

Branching out and officially starting a brand of my own has been a dream of mine for a long time, and in 2017 I came up with the name Knotty Collective. I began to add more structure and planning to my creative process in hopes of getting my own business started. The rest is history!

What pushes and/or inspires you to be creative?

Expressing myself in creative ways nourishes my soul. If I don't have at least one project on the go at any given time I feel incomplete. (Such a nerd, right?!)

I am inspired by so many things! Nature and the creative work of others are two things that really inspire my own creativity. I often get ideas pouring into my head as I am lying in bed at night, so I think that my brain operates as a kind of night owl in that respect.

I am also inspired by the uniqueness of the individual. I love coming up with new designs and craft ideas in hopes that this dynamic and shifting way of creating may, at some point, compliment one's own unique style.

How can people purchase your work?

My work can be purchased through my website, through Facebook, and on Instagram.

I also love creating custom, one of a kind orders for people who have their own ideas for things that they would like to have made!
